Delete your account
Last updated: 28 June 2026
You can permanently delete your SettleUp account and all the data associated with it at any time. This page explains how, and exactly what is removed.
The short version.
- The fastest way is inside the app: Account tab → Delete Account.
- If you've uninstalled the app or can't sign in, email us from your account's email address and we'll delete it for you.
- Deletion is permanent and removes your profile, your sign-in, and the records you own.
1. Delete from inside the app (fastest)
- Open SettleUp and tap the Account tab (bottom-right).
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account (“Permanently remove your account and all data”).
- Confirm both prompts. Your account and data are removed right away.
There's no waiting period — deletion is processed immediately on our servers, and your phone number and email become free to register again.
2. Request deletion by email
If you've already uninstalled SettleUp, or you can't sign in, you don't need to reinstall it — email settleup.help@gmail.com from the email address on your account with the subject “Delete my SettleUp account”. We use the matching email address to verify the request, delete the account within 30 days (usually much sooner), and confirm by reply.
3. Delete specific data without deleting your account
You don't have to delete your whole account to remove individual records. Inside the app you can delete any expense, payment, or ledger you created at any time — open it and choose delete, and it's removed from your account on our servers too. If you'd like us to remove specific data for you, email settleup.help@gmail.com from your account's email address describing what to delete, and we'll take care of it.
4. What gets deleted
- Your profile — name, profile photo, email, and phone number (and its one-way hash).
- Your sign-in and sessions — every saved login and registered device, across all your devices.
- The records you own — the 1-to-1 and group ledgers you created, their expenses, payments, splits, reminders, and any receipt files you uploaded.
- Your shared-ledger membership — you're removed from ledgers shared with you, along with related invitations and read receipts.
5. What is kept, and why
- Other people's shared records. In a ledger shared with others, the entries you added stay visible to the remaining members so their balances stay correct — but they're no longer linked to you (your name is detached).
- Security audit logs. We keep non-identifying security event records (for example, “an account was deleted” with a timestamp) with no link to your identity, as required for fraud and abuse protection. These contain no financial details and no raw phone numbers.
